HOPE IN THE FIGHT AGAINST GENDER BASED VIOLENCE

As we observe the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, it is crucial to spotlight the significant challenges and transformative solutions within vulnerable communities. Our focus is Girls’ Leadership and Economic Projects are making remarkable strides in transforming the lives of women and girls.


The Challenge on Gender-Based violence Kyaka II, are often grappling with the harsh realities of displacement, including inadequate access to resources, security, and basic services. Women and girls in these settings are particularly vulnerable to gender-based violence (GBV). The turmoil and instability can lead to increased risks of sexual violence, exploitation, and abuse. The consequences of GBV are devastating, affecting not just the physical health of individuals but also their mental well-being, economic stability, and overall quality . Davison Girls Leadership and Economic Projects shine as a beacon of hope and empowerment. This initiative is dedicated to breaking the cycle of violence by empowering refugee women and girls through education, leadership training, and economic empowerment.
With a series of educational workshops aimed at both refugee men and women in the community. These sessions focus on raising awareness about the rights of women and girls, understanding the impact of GBV, and the importance of gender equality. By educating the community, the initiative fosters a supportive environment where women and girls can feel safer
Leadership training forms a core part of Davision projects. Women and girls are equipped with various skills needed to become leaders in their communities. This training not only boosts their confidence and self esteem but also positions them as respected decision-makers who can advocate for the rights and needs of other women and girls.

Economic Empowerment through Skill building
Davision projects provide vocational training and skill development programs. From tailoring and crafts to business management and other skills, these programs are designed to help refugee women and girls build sustainable livelihoods. Economic independence is not just about survival; it’s about empowerment and resilience.

The impact of Davision Girls Leadership and Economic Projects is profound and inspiring. Many women, once victims of GBV, are now successful entrepreneurs and community leaders. Young girls are more confident and assertive, with many continuing their education and dreaming bigger than ever before.
A refugee young woman who fled from her home country Burundi and found refugee in Kyaka II. She participated in the leadership and economic training provided by Davision projects. Today, she runs a small business and she is now a trainer in tailoring and sewing in the settlement, supporting not just her family but also sharing skills with other refugee young women. She is also an active advocate for women’s rights in Kyaka II, using her voice and new-found influence to fight against GBV.

Unite in the Fight Against GBV
Davision Girls Leadership and Economic Projects are a testament to the power of targeted interventions in addressing gender-based violence. However, the fight is far from 40% of the refugees and 60% are survivors.
