When I walked the streets of Kampala searching for work, I never imagined I’d one day be building AI tools and leading digital strategy for a tech organization. I never imagined I’d be sharing my story with girls and women who, just like I once was, are simply looking for a chance. But here I am — not just as a woman in tech — but as someone who wants to use her journey to uplift others
After earning my degree in Accounting and Finance, I struggled to find a job that could support me or my family. Life was hard. I walked door to door in Kampala looking for something more — something stable. And just when I was about to give up, I was introduced to an organization offering free IT training. At first, I hesitated. I didn’t study tech. And society constantly reminded me that “tech is for men.”
But something inside me said: “Why not me?”
I took the chance. I worked hard. I overcame fear, doubt, and stereotypes. And that decision changed my life. Today, I am the Chief Marketing Officer at Artsy Africa Remote Squad, a tech organization that empowers African youth through innovation.
Recently, I was honored with the opportunity to present my story at the Symposium: Unleashing Gifts & Talents Among the Marginalised in Kenya. Standing on that stage and sharing how I went from surviving on the streets of Kampala to designing AI tools for global clients was not just a career milestone — it was a moment of reflection and gratitude. I spoke not just for myself, but for every girl who has ever doubted her worth or questioned whether her dreams mattered. I wanted the girls in that room — and those reading this now — to know that transformation is possible.
But I didn’t stop there.
I joined Da Vision Women because I believe deeply in its mission — to empower refugee women and girls in Kyaka II and beyond through education, training, and mentorship. My transformation only became possible because someone gave me access, guidance, and belief. And I want to be that “someone” for others.
To the young women and girls in Kyaka II:
You are more than your current situation. You are smart, strong, and capable.
Your background does not limit your future.
You have the power to dream bigger, learn new skills, and lead boldly.
